Can It Be Easy To Get A Job In Nigeria?

The Mystery Secret of Getting Job offers in Nigeria

This is a land where we live in the everyday reality of unemployment. It is becoming more startling of late because as much as graduates are complaining of unemployment, HR agencies are complaining of lack of qualified candidates for the job offers they have.

So, what is the secret of getting a great job then? Two things
• Be qualified
• Search vehemently
How to be qualified
An HR personnel from Philips Consulting said early this year that having a B. Sc or BA or whatever undergraduate degree is just as good as being alive in today’s world. In other words, it is just as a pre-requisite. Many career counselors may have advised you to add more value to yourself-But how! Which certifications, trainings or degree are you supposed to take?

The way out!-
Check the newspapers (Tuesday & Thursday Guardian or Wednesday Businessday). Look through the job vacancies. Take careful note of the job requirements for the a. Companies you’d love to work and b. Department/Units you’d love to be.

Note down the professional certifications, trainings & skills required from you. Gun for these the best way you can.
Also, it is important that you include these skills on your CV but don’t lie.

Search vehemently
Internet, network, written applications, e-mail applications: the rules have not changed.
Network: Try to complete a long circle of influence. Get your CV from people you presently know, those these people refer you to and then, those they in-turn refer you to. If you are polite enough (but not sheepish), you’d get more than enough help.
Internet : By your first month of NYSC, you should have gotten out more than 50 applications on line alone.
Written Applications: Do not ever be shy to give your CV to people for job. Spend more effort on people with job already & who are willing.
NOTE: Many company’s HQ are at Victoria Island, Lagos. Make copies of you CV . Dedicate one or two days to drop them directly at their offices. That way, you’d sure they’d get your CV.
E-mail applications: If you ever run out of sites to drop your CV. Go to the company’s webpage. Try to locate the HR manager’s e-mail address. Send him/her a polite job letter with your CV .

Hope this brings you a new insight!

If you want to work in a consulting firm, make sure you learn HOW TO WRITE A GREAT JOB ESSAY

How To Write A Great Job essay!

It is important you learn good essay writing skills before attempting tests, especially in consulting firms where you’d be required to write a standard essay. Here are important tips to help you if your skills are not perfect.

10 Keys to Writing A Great Job Essay!

1. Budget your time carefully. For example, if you have 30 minutes for the essay, divide your time as follows
  • Reading & thinking about the topic 2-3 minute
  • Planning & taking notes 2-3 minutes
  • Writing the essay 20 minutes
  • Check/reviewing the essay 3-5 minutes
2. Take time to read carefully what you are required to write about. It is suicide to find out at the end of the test that you have written down an entirely different or even slightly different idea.
3. Brainstorm. In your first 2-3 minutes, carefully study the question, brainstorm (think deeply) about the topic & the best way to approach it. Jot down ideas immediately.
4. Plan your essay before you write it. Arrange your ideas in short-hand.
5. Be sure your handwriting is clear and legible. Bad handwriting is another suicide.
6. Follow a clear logical organization of the essay:
  • Introduction
  • Body
  • Conclusion
7. Make use of concrete examples & specific reasons to buttress your point.
8. Use signal words to indicate transition- Moreover, however, in addition, etc. A lot of Nigerians miss it here.
9. Use a variety of sentence types. Good English writing consists of a more or less equal balance of simple short sentences and long ones.
10. Check your essay for errors. Do not make any major changes. Just correct punctuations, spellings, capitalization and other grammatical mistakes.
Hope this brings new insights!

How To Find A Job In The Face Of Global Economic Crisis

Finding a Job In The Face of Global Recession

In hard times like this when employed people (with experience) are even afraid to change jobs and many companies have resorted to retrenchment of workers or worse still, cutting down salaries, greater challenge lies ahead of recent graduates and graduating student in search of a job/career.

The only way to stay ahead of the fold is to move like a tiger- be the best candidate. Yes! You have to be the better qualified candidate and then, you must be the best job seeker.

First, make your CV very impressive- remove irrelevances and emphasize the more important ones. Also remember, every recruiter would prefer someone who can do two things at a time. This is no room for miscalculations. Send your CV for review to anybody you know who is working in the industry where you are applying. Many people would respond if you ask politely. Also, take their advice with a good heart and remember to say ‘thank you’.

If your CV is great, you’d be called for tests. Find out what is required and the type of test you’ll do. In some places, you might have to write an essay (a world-class essay). Prepare adequately and rest well.

If you pass your test, there are higher chances you’d be called for interview. Mentally rehearse likely questions, find answers that favor the company but do not lie.

Do not limit yourself to only a few companies. Keep searching and keep rolling out CVs. You might however need to follow-up more on the few most relevant and with higher prospects.

Consider your age also so that you don’t waste too much time building castles in the air.

Lastly, keep hoping and praying to God.

Why You Might Not Have Gotten A Job!

If you have been searching for job for a while now, find out what your problem is!
If your CV is not tight, that is just why you have not been called for interviews.
If you have gone for several interviews, then you might need smart lessons for interviews. Make sure you don’t lie about yourself in your CV and then get caught during interview.
Do you make use of known and unknown networks? What do you use facebook for, to gist away or find & nurture quality network? Make sure you communicate politely with them.
Your email address-is it ‘switbaby2007@hotmail.com’? Come on! See how it sounds. Why not use something like ‘damilola.adejare@hotmail.com’
If you check yourself carefully, there is usually an obvious reason why you are still jobless. Your task is to impress your interviewer anyhow possible as long as you appear natural.

Hope For Every Nigerian

It is painful that as much people groan for unemployment in Nigeria, HR recruiters complain of not finding qualified candidates.

Our educational system in Nigeria might take a lot of blame for this but to succeed in anything, we have to make ourselves responsible for whatever happens to us.

Some people are making headway and very fast for that matter. It shows that there is something we can do.

First, have you thought about professional certifications?
How about per -time Masters programme?

Search out requirements that you need and get them. You can start with the cheapest one to save cost.Look in the paper, websites or other avenues for anything that can make you better qualified.

Good luck
See you at the top!
